Balancing a Checkbook
The most real world application for adding and subtracting decimals that I can think of is balancing a check book! This is a great online practice for checking your decimal addition and subtraction skills! Remember that you will be doing this soon!

Multiplying Fractions Practice!
Here is the link to the online practice for multiplying fractions!
Remember you must only have numerator and denominator format, so if you have mixed numbers, you must convert to improper fractions using the "texas" method first!

Perimeter, Circumference, and Area Review
Perimeter is the total distance around an object. There is a specific formula for perimeter of a rectangle, P = 2L + 2W, but for other shapes, you just add all the sides up. Because circles don't have sides that we can put a ruler to and measure, we have to find a different way to find the total distance around the circle. We call this, circumference. You can find circumference using 2 formulas: C = pi x diameter or C = 2 x pi x radius. The reason there are two formulas is because 2 radii = 1 diameter. You have to look at what the problem gives you. Remember, perimeter and circumference both measure the distance around the outside of an object!
Area is the total spaced covered inside an object. It's the flat space that something occupies. you must look at the shape and determine what it is so you can pick the right formula! The formulas can be seen below. Make sure you choose the right one to solve!

Volume Assisstance!
I wanted to post some helpful tips on finding the volume of an object. Volume is just an extension of area. It is an object that has multiple layers. To find the volume, you find the area of the first layer, then multiply it by how many times it is stacked. There is an example below and more practice on the web-link.
V = Bh
Volume = Area of base* x height
*** Because there are so many formulas areas, you have to choose the right one!

Sequences Help!
Finding a sequence isn't as hard as it seems, but you must follow the same steps to help train your brain on the process!
- Create a table and fill it in.
- Find the pattern in the value of the term.
- Pattern becomes coefficient for n.
- Check with the positions to see if an additional step is needed.
Here are some practice questions!

2014 is here and STAAR is approaching!
I hope that everyone had a great holiday break! Although I enjoyed the time off, I am very ready to get back to work and get to help each of you grow in your math skills! This post is about letting you know what work we have coming up and what is due. This week, I really want to focus on enforcing discounts, tax, and tip. These are real-world skills that you will use a lot! We are going to enforce other skills through our Skill Builders. I have include a list of assignments due below, along with some videos for help!
Tuesday: Nothing is due because it's the first day!
Wednesday: Skill Builder #20
Thursday: Skill Builder #21 AND Discount ?s from Class Sheet (1, 3, 5-8)
Friday: Skill Builder #22 AND Tax and Tip ?s from Class Sheet (4, 9-15)
